In a sense, I felt bamboozled but again, in a good way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">I loved Camp Indie so much in 2023 that I decided to invest in this experience again and came back in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Discovering_Camp_Indie_Fulfilling_Childhood_Dreams\"><\/span>Discovering Camp Indie: Fulfilling Childhood Dreams<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">As a Latina kid in the US, one of the childhood things that I always felt I missed out was on the sleep-away camp experience growing up. My Colombian parents did not believe in their kids sleeping out of the house at a summer camp, EVER! We were allowed to go sleepover at one of our cousins&#8217; houses and that was it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:11px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Also, growing up in a Latino household meant for many, that we were constantly told that there was no money for this type of activity, even if we knew our parents had the money. I had some friends that were allowed to go to summer camp every year and I was secretly jealous of them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:11px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Imagine my surprise when my friend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/christinelozada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Christine Lozada<\/a> was promoting a unique experience in her Instagram stories&#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/campindie.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Camp Indie<\/a>. An adult summer camp?! Who, what, where, why, how much, and again what???!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:11px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">I had never heard of such a thing and it was my chance to finally live out that childhood dream at the ripe age of &#8230; teenage 42 ?. Little did I know, that this unconventional conference would be so much more than just learning how to become a digital nomad\u2014it was about reclaiming lost childhood experiences.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:11px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">I made the trip there from NYC with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenwantwellness.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Elisabeth<\/a> (read more about her, a Latina mom who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thequeenoftrips.com\/es\/mama-latina-viaja-sola\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">solo travels the world<\/a>). On the 2.5 hour drive to Kent, we had a great time chatting as it was also our first time meeting in person even though we had met online many times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:11px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">From the moment I arrived, I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness! I saw people that I had met at other travel conferences and that made me feel a little more at ease. However I still did not know what to expect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:11px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">In 2023 the first activity after checking in was tie-dying a t-shirt. I loved this activity because I love doing crafty things and this was a great icebreaker. We met more and more people as they were arriving and it was a great conversation starter! From digital nomads and aspiring entrepreneurs to artists and adventurers, each person brought a unique perspective and shared a common passion for exploration and growth. I was over the moon because I finally found a group of encouraging people who authentically offer help on how to get each other to the next step. This community is extremely supportive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:11px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><br><strong>Shared Experiences:<\/strong><br>Bonding over shared experiences, we celebrated victories, supported one another through challenges, and inspired each other to dream bigger. Whether we engaged in discussions during workshops or enjoyed a night of dancing and fun, every interaction was genuine and enriching.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:11px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Lasting Friendships:<\/strong><br>What started as encounters at camp has blossomed into lasting friendships that go beyond geographical boundaries. Thanks to the inclusive and supportive environment at Camp Indie, the connections I made at camp since 2023 are continuing to thrive beyond the campgrounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Healing_and_Inner_Child_Work_The_Unexpected_Transformation\"><\/span>Healing and Inner Child Work: The Unexpected Transformation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Before I was diagnosed with cancer, I was pretty skeptical about alternative healing methods. But surviving cancer changed my perspective, making me more open to exploring different paths to healing. One thing I never really believed in though, was breathwork. I mean, how could breathing in a certain way actually help me heal? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:11px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Well, let me tell you, breathwork helped me release years of built-up stress and anxiety, giving me clarity. It truly was an emotional rollercoaster\u2014tears flowed, in fact, there was a TON of ugly crying, and through it all, I felt supported by a community that embraced vulnerability with open arms. By the way, most of the participants were ugly crying as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:11px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sensophy.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Jacob Sokol<\/a> led us through a guided meditation that had everyone shedding tears and letting go of years of pent-up emotions. To be honest, this was such a beautiful and changing experience. I had never seen so many people (almost 100 of us) sharing a moment of profound vulnerability like this. Egos were put aside and even though we were all laying down on yoga mats side by side, we were each experiencing the healing session individually. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Inner Child Healing:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Doing all the optional healing activities at Camp Indie helped me recognize and confront childhood pain and trauma that I hadn&#8217;t dealt with before. It opened my mind to alternative healing methods. Out of all the conferences I\u2019ve attended, I can truly say that Camp Indie marked a before and an after for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:11px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Why? Because my inner child felt seen and heard. I got to do so many things I wasn\u2019t allowed to do as a child, and it felt incredibly redeeming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">At a conventional conference, you learn new skills and hear a lot of ideas, filling up your mind with valuable knowledge. But once you leave the conference, you fall back into old habits. Maybe you take action, maybe you don&#8217;t but the confernece never goes beyond that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:11px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Why is that? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Well at most conferences, the mindset of the attendees is rarely addressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Let&#8217;s think about this, how can you be a successful entrepreneur if you haven\u2019t dealt with your mindset? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Camp Indie goes beyond the usual by focusing on personal growth and healing, creating a foundation for true success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:11px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Remember, these activities are optional and you are not pressured to participate in any activity that you don&#8217;t want to participate in.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">However, 99.9% of campers both in 2023 and 2024 attended these healing and authentic relating sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Why?  Because they are truly powerful.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Summer_Camp_Adventures_Sky_Cycles_Aquatic_Obstacle_Courses\"><\/span>Summer Camp Adventures: Sky Cycles &amp; Aquatic Obstacle Courses<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">So is this camp all about ugly crying and being vulnerable?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">ABSOLUTELY NOT, so let&#8217;s talk the exciting stuff&#8230; camp activities!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:11px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">There is so much to do at Camp Indie, located at Club Getaway in a small town in the Berkshire Mountains. You can zip line through the treetops, ride the Skycycle (where I had a full-on panic attack but was calmed down by an amazing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clubgetaway.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Club Getaway<\/a> employee), yell your lungs out on the giant swing, jump on trampolines, go hiking, waterskiing, kayaking, paddle boarding, dance at a themed party, enjoy cocktails (I chose not to, but they offer an unlimited drinks package), take fitness classes, and so much more!
